Celebrity line-up revealed for Barnsley Fashion Week: YouTube sensation Danny Malin and Stephanie Hirst to take to the stage

Local stars from stage, screen and on air have been announced in the line-up for South Yorkshire’s first Barnsley Fashion Week.

Hosts of the show will be Rate My Takeaway’s Danny Malin and his wife Sophie Mei Lan who reached the live finals of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent, together the pair are known online as Mr and Mrs Yorkshire.

Danny, 43, said: “I’m looking forward to being back on the road and returning to my hometown Barnsley to present the show with t’old wife.

“I’m all about supporting local independents and I’ll even be modelling.”

Danny and Sheffield-born Sophie will be joined by DJ Stephanie Hirst who still lives in Barnsley and will be modelling local designers on the catwalk.

Barnsley Fashion Week organiser Victoria, 36, originally from Darfield who now lives in Wakefield set up the show to support local talent and give up and coming designers from Barnsley College a boost as well as raising money for charity.

Victoria who runs Sociability Group said: “My Dad runs Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club and I run Sociability Group. Along with our sponsors Clobber Swap and Burrows Motor Company, we wanted to raise money for BIADS (Barnsley Dementia Support) and Marie Curie.”

Clobber Swap was set up by Yorkshire Entrepreneur Camille Johnson. Her facebook group has gone from 30 friends swapping to now nearly 7000 members in two years.

“At the turn of 2020, I felt like I’d lost a bit of sparkle. I decided to take charge and give my work wardrobe a shake up and de-clutter, arranging two piles: one for me and one for my three sisters. I couldn’t believe how many unworn, quality items I had in my wardrobe and thought ‘why do I have so many clothes?’”

Now women all over the region are swapping their garments as well as making sustainable friendships and shwopping circles.

They’ll be models from the Clobber Swap facebook group on the night showcasing preloved womenswear alongside designs from a range of independent designers and students from Barnsley College.

Barnsley Fashion Week takes place at Metrodome Arena on Friday 27 October.

Brands featured include Frank Bird, River Island and TK Maxx.
